George Everette Burkeen was born June 10, 1935 in Serles, TN the son of the late Henry Scott and Nancy Margaret Herriman Burkeen.
He was united in marriage to Shelby Jean Wilson. Mrs. Burkeen preceded him in death on July 7, 2001.
Mr. Burkeen was a truck driver for over 30 years. He was a member of the Ardmore Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee. He loved the outdoors especially camping with his family in the Great Smoky Mountains, at Pickwick or one of their many favorite sites. His choice of musical instruments were the guitar and banjo which brought him much joy.
Mr. Burkeen departed this life on June 8, 2016 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 80 Years, 11 Months, 29 Days. He is survived by three sons, Dell Burkeen and wife Joye of Memphis, TN, Dexter Burkeen and wife Dorothy of Waterford, MS, Daniel Burkeen and wife Marcia of Ramer, TN; adopted daughter, Tippy Satterfield of Memphis, TN; stepdaughter, Cori Echlin-Ringwald of Memphis, TN; a sister, Eva Farris of Hornsby, TN; a brother, Berchil Burkeen and wife Rachel of Michigan; nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Burkeen was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Moon; a sister, Elsie Mae Burkeen; two brothers, J.C. Farris, Vernon Hugh Farris.
