George E. Redmond was born in Columbus, Ohio on May 26. 1928. The fifth son of John D. and Grace Redmond. He entered his heavenly home on December 31st 2104.
After graduating from West High School; he enlisted in the U. S. Navy where he served from 1946 to 1951. While in the Navy, George was stationed for 18 months as a radio operator at Fleet Weather Central on Guam in the Marianas Islands and served during the Korean conflict.
George received an ASC degree in Electronic Engineering from Franklin University, Columbus Ohio. While living in Columbus, Ohio George was employed by Battelle Memorial Institute.
On a beautiful autumn day, October 19, 1952, George was united in marriage to the former. Dorothy Leonard. They have two sons, Neal J. and Keith A. Redmond.
In 1966, the family moved to Kingston, N. Y.; where George began 24 years of employment with I.B.M. in the Large Frame System Division and later in Quality Assurance.
Before leaving for New York, in 1960; George became interested in illustrating the gospel with objects and became member of the Christian Magicians. George developed many theme programs, such as Dental Health, Safety Drug Abuse, and Patriotic Programs for Day Care and Kindergarten through Middle School. Some of the favorites were “Magic in Hawaii” and “The Spirit of “76”. He was a member of the Society of American Magicians, SAM in N. Y., and International Brotherhood of Magicians local 194, The Space City Magic Club in Huntsville, Alabama and The Fellowship of Christian Magicians.
While living in New York, George taught Junior High Boys in Sunday school. He also served as a Deacon in his church. After moving to Huntsville, Alabama for his retirement, he was ordained as a Family Deacon at Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he was a member.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dottie; two sons and daughter-in-law, Neal J. & wife Debra Redmond and Keith Redmond; Neal’s daughters & family, Kristin Truax and husband, Scott; three great grandsons, Wyatt, Logan and Austin Truax of Canaserga, N. Y.; granddaughter, Melissa Redmond; sister, Hazel Harper, Columbus, OH; sister-in laws, Rose Redmond, Lawrenceville, N. J. and Gaynell (Redmond) Vangundy, Prospect, OH and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon Saturday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. The funeral service will immediately follow at 12:00 noon at the church with Dr. Ron Madison officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
