Funeral service for George D. Smith, 87, Athens will be Thursday May 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Ridout’s Brown-Service Funeral Home with Rev. Fred Lackey officiating and burial in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday May 25, 2016 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Smith who died Sunday May 22, 2016 at Crestwood Hospital was born on October 11, 1928, in Tennessee.
Mr. Smith had a long working career with the U.S. Army at Redstone while living in Decatur, AL. After retirement, he moved to Athens and Harvest area and attended First Baptist Church in Athens. He is preceded in death by two sons; Roger D. Smith and Stephen G. Smith.
He is survived by; Daughter, Carol S. Owens, two sons, Alan D. Smith and wife Kathy, and Kenneth E. Smith and wife Carol, two daughter-in-laws; Bonita Smith and Carla Smith, twelve grandchildren, one great-grandchild and one great-great-grandchild.
