On this date, January 26, 2021, George Benny Hunt was called to his eternal home. A graveside service was held Friday, January 29, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. CST (3:00 P.M. EST) in the Clay County Memory Gardens in Ashland, AL.
Benny was a loving husband, daddy, a “Paw-Paw” (perhaps a name he admired most) and dear friend to all who knew him.
Benny was born on January 19th, 1943 in Ashland, Alabama. Much of his adolescent years were spent in the great state of Alabama. Benny met the love of his life on a blind date in December of 1971. After a courtship of two years, she accepted. Eventually Benny, Patricia, and their daughter, Lisa planted themselves in Manchester, Georgia in 1977.
Benny worked as a railroad conductor with CSX Transportation for 40 years. After retiring in September of 2001, he started taking music lessons consisting of both voice and up-right bass. Benny enjoyed bluegrass and southern gospel music and was a part of two music groups; Benny and The Boys and Rock Bottom Band. He also did volunteering at Roosevelt Institute as Forgetful the clown. Woodturning was also a hobby he enjoyed. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Warm Springs, GA.
He was a member of the Stephen’s Masonic Lodge # 586 for close to 50 years.
Benny is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Patricia Williams Hunt of Manchester, Georgia, daughter, Lisa Brookshire, son in law Jason Brookshire and two grandsons: Cole Brookshire and Zane Brookshire of Mount Airy, Georgia and a sister, Judy May of Manchester Ga, one nephew Keith May , wife Anganette and great nephew Austin of Charlotte, NC. He is reunited in heaven with his mother, LaRue Carpenter Hunt previously of Lineville, Alabama.
Pallbearers were Richard Alexander, Chris Ward, Glen Gosa, Telath Holland, Kody Holland and Sonny Clark.
