Gennie Lynn Cagle West passed away at the age of 65 on November 26, 2024, in Huntsville, AL. Born on November 23, 1959, Gennie lived a life marked by devotion to her family and community.
Gennie cherished her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her sons, Josh (Tina) West of Valparaiso, Indiana, and James (JJ) West of Bismarck, Arkansas; grandchildren Andrea (Levi) Gray, Miranda (Kyle) Lewallen, Haleigh Earnest, Dalton (Carrisa) Meadows, Bryanna West, Myleigh, Austin West, and Freyja Mclaughlin; great-grandchildren Kayden Lewallen, Kason Lewallen, Charlie Lewallen, Kylar Gray, Kairi Gray, Willow Neal, and Riley Meadows. She also leaves behind her brother-in-law, Dennis Goodman, along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Gennie was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Lee West; her parents, George and Virginia Cagle; her brother, Billy Ray Baker; her sister, Donnie Goodman; her stepdaughter, Jesse Carlson; her great-granddaughter, Ivy Rayne Neal; and a great-grandbaby West.
Gennie was a graduate of Magnet Cove High School and furthered her education at Hot Springs Beauty College. Her career spanned working at the Oaklawn Race Track in Hot Springs and serving as an auxiliary member of the Ardmore Alabama Fire Department before her retirement.
A woman of faith, Gennie was an active member of the Limestone County Cowboy Church. Her hobbies included an array of crafting activities such as knitting, bead art, cross stitch, and creating enchanting tiny fairy gardens. She also enjoyed attending drag races to watch her great-niece and great-nephew compete, and cherished the trips she took with her sister Donnie and brother-in-law Dennis to Gulf Shores.
In accordance with her wishes, Gennie will be cremated and laid to rest with her parents in Arkansas at Magnet Cove Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held prior to the burial. The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Ardmore, Alabama Fire Department in Gennie’s memory.
