FLORENCE – North Alabama Medical Center is proud to welcome J. Wilson Mesquita, MD, to its surgical group. Dr. Mesquita comes to NAMC after completing full general surgery training at Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich.
“I am a passionate general surgeon with special interest in cancer care,” said Mesquita. “With a focus on delivering exceptional patient care and utilizing the latest advancements in surgical techniques, I am truly excited to bring my expertise to this region and contribute to improving people’s lives.”

Prior to Wayne State, Mesquita was at the Institute of Cancer of Ceaera in Brazil, where he served as managing director from 2013-2016. He was later named head of the department of digestive oncology in March of 2016.
He has had work published 29 times and will bring expertise in surgical oncology and general surgery, along with Laparoscopic, abdominal, gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, liver and gastric surgery.
