Genell Spain Lindsey died Thursday, May 16, 2013 in Roswell, Georgia. Originally from Poplar Springs, she was laid to rest in a private graveside service on Sunday, May 19, at Poplar Springs Freewill Baptist Church.
Genell graduated from Florence Teachers College and obtained her B.S. in education and two additional advanced degrees. She taught third grade for twenty-six years at Weeden Elementary School. Mama Ginny, as she was loving called by her grandchildren, loved her family more than life itself. Whenever or whatever anyone needed in her family, if it was possible for her to assist, you could always count on her. Numerous students have stayed in contact with her over the years reminiscing over her helping hand. Her Christian faith also played an important part in Ginny’s life. Whenever someone was ill or had a death in their family, she was always preparing a meal or dish to assist them. If you spotted a lovely pie or cake on the countertops, you knew to ask ‘who is this for’. Ginny was also notorious for buying clothes, providing lunches, and trunk loads of Christmas gifts for her students as needs arose. She also tutored numerous adults over the years to help them pass their GED requirements or if they just needed help to enable them to get a better job. This was always done at the kitchen table accompanied by a cup of coffee or a cola.
Genell was preceded in death by her parents, as well as, sister Annie Oldham, brothers, Travis, Lee, Jim, and Lloyd, husbands, Gunion Gables and Clifton Lindsey. She is survived by daughters, Dianne Lazzari (Joe), Debra Fergerson (Stan), Renee’ Parnell (Jim), grandsons, Andrew (Nao) and Adam Wylie, Heath (fiance Laura Veezey) and Barrett Parnell, Travis Fergerson, great grandchildren, Emma Kei and John Michael Wylie.
