LTC Gene Neil Castleberry, US Army, Retired, age 91 of Tuscumbia, formerly of Sheffield, died Sunday April 23, 2017. His visitation will be Thursday 6-8 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. His funeral service will be Friday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bill Bedsole officiating. Burial will follow at 1 pm in Corinth National Cemetery.
Gene was a native of Tuscumbia. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Sheffield and the Wesleyan Fellowship Sunday School Class. He served in the 4th Marine Division at Iwo Jima and was a retired career officer in the United States Army who served two tours in Vietnam. He later retired from the Alabama State Highway Department.
He lost his sweetheart and wife of seventy years, Betty, on April 8, 2017. He showed us how to live and was our hero.
He is survived by his son Steve and daughter Sarah; 3 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson.
