Gene Hermanson, 74, died Saturday, April 25, 2015, at his home in Huntsville.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, April 30, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Hampton Cove Funeral Home, Pastor Blair Clark officiating. Visitation will be held at Hampton Cove Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Hampton Cove Cemetery
Gene L. Hermanson was born October 6, 1940, to Lawrence A. and Dorothy M. (Epsen) Hermanson in Minneapolis, MN. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis in June of 1958, and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served three years and eight months, including two years in Giesen, Germany in the 10th Ord. Co, and then one year in El Paso, Texas in the 10th Ord. Group.
On May 20, 1961 Gene married Irmtraud Stoffel. The couple had one son, Paul Hermanson. Gene worked for Schaeffer Refrigeration, first in Minneapolis and then in Huntsville, Alabama. He then worked in welding for many years and retired from General Products in January 2010. His hobbies included woodworking, and working in his yard. He has been a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Huntsville since 1976.
Gene is survived by his wife of 54 years, Irmtraud, and their son, Paul, both of Huntsville; one brother, Ross and his wife Betsy of Wells, Minnesota; one niece, Maren Norell (Kevin Ramaekers) of San Diego, CA; and four nephews: Karl (Rachel) Hermanson of Oregon, WI; Erik (Kristen) Hermanson of Mankato, MN; Peter Hermanson of Falcon Heights, MN; and Luther Hermanson of Minneapolis, MN. Four grandnephews, many cousins and many friends also survive him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two daughters-in-law, Apryl Hermanson in 1998 and Susan Hermanson in 2013.
