Gene Coleman Blevins, 84, a lifelong resident of Somerville, AL passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2013 in the loving presence of his family. Funeral Servcies will be Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 12:00 PM at Somerville United Methodist Church with Bro. Al Dean and Bro. John Walker officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. The body will lie in state for one hour prior to the serviceat the Church. Burial will be in the Historical Somerville Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 30, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home.
Mr. Blevins was born April 15, 1929, in Somerville to Silas Henry Blevins and Mary Betsy Ruth (Moore) Blevins. He was married to his wife Faye Blevins on April 4, 1953 until her passing, and was a member of the Somerville United Methodist Church. He joined the U.S. Army on March 29, 1951, and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War as a Supply Transportation Specialist. He worked for Morgan Sheet Metals, then worked for 30 years at Wolverine Tube until his retirement. He was a “master” of small engine repair and loved fishing on the Tennessee River. He raised beagles and loved rabbit, deer and dove hunting. He was an avid Alabama Football fan and Atlanta Braves fan and he loved his family and his beloved dog, Fuzzball. He was a past Chief and founding member of the Somverville Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his wife: Delores Fay Jones Blevins, his parents, a daughter: Janice Blevins Morgan, a sister: Dorothy Mae Walker, three Infant grandchildren: Jennifer, Dianne and Dennis Morgan and two sons-in-law: Gary Writesel and Frankie Morgan.

Two Daughters: Wanda Blevins Sterling (Robin), Owens Crossroads, AL and Deborah Blevins Writesel, Laceys Spring, AL
One Sister: Oddlee Hamilton, Decatur, AL
Four Grandchildren: Wayne Wrtiesel, Kaitlin Blevins, Cory Wilhite, and Riley Wilhite
Two Great Grandchildren: Makenzie Writesel and Aden Wilhite
Pallbearers will be Ray Watts, Tim Walker, Alvin Morgan, Cory Wilhite, Riley Wilhite, and Wayne Writesel.
Honorary Pallbearers will be James Roy Fairbanks, Bobby Kent, Valter Wade, Robert Maples, Doyle Houser, Gary Landers, John Wayne Mooneyham Jack Mooneyham Joe Mooneyham and Troy Franks.
