Gaynell Thornton Davis – Obituary

Gaynell Thornton Davis, 87, of Rogersville, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015, at her residence. She was the oldest member of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church and worked at Lauderdale County ASCS office for 29 years before retiring in 1994.

Visitation was Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Rogersville Funeral Home. Funeral services will be today at 1 p.m. in the chapel with Tommy Heaps and Phil Springer officiating. Burial will follow in Harvey Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Nicolas Davis, Jonathan Duke, Terry Thornton, Max Thornton, Steve Butler, and Rickey Green.

Ms. Davis was preceded in death by her parents, Grandpa and Elizabeth Thornton, and brothers, Cortez and Leon. She is survived by her children, Angie Hayes and Wade Davis; grandchildren, Laura (Jonathan) Duke, Nicolas (Susan) Davis, and Josh Davis; great-grandchildren, Jackson Duke and Sean Barringer; sister-in-law, Martha Thornton; nephews, Roger (Sophie) Thornton, Terry (Stacey) Thornton, and Max Thornton; special friends, Donna and Greg Walker and Carl and Jean Green; and many cousins who were loved as siblings.

The family would like to thank Hospice of North Alabama; special thanks to nurse, Kim Ray and to Dr. William Hobbs for all the years of care.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to American Cancer Society at donate.cancer.org or to Hospice of North Alabama.
