Gary Wayne Jackson
January 18, 1978 — February 2, 2024
Waverly, TN
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Gary. He passed on Friday February 2, 2024, at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital in Nashville, TN.
Born on January 18, 1978, in Pulaski, TN to the proud parents Veda Adelle Morrow Jackson and the late Mark Neil Jackson. Gary grew up in Columbia, TN and was an excellent student attending Columbia Central High school and graduating Class of 1996. While growing up Gary attended Collegeview Church of Christ in Columbia and later as an adult he attended Jackson Heights Church of Christ in Columbia, TN until he moved to Waverly, TN. He went on to attend college working his way through at Maury Regional Hospitals coffee shop. After college he worked in accounting at Computer Solutions and later as an insurance rep for Liberty National Life Insurance. Right when life was looking so promising Gary unfortunately became both medically and physically disabled. However, he did not let that deter him from living his best life or enjoying the things he loved most. He loved to travel and was always up for an adventure. He enjoyed his many road trips to Chicago to watch the Cubs play and the occasional trip to Knoxville to see his beloved Tennessee Vols play at Neyland Stadium. He looked forward to his beach trips with friends and his weekends in the mountains. He was also a very proud survivor of the 2021 Waverly Flood that claimed 19 lives. He lost his house and all his belongings but not his will to go on.
Gary is survived by his mother, Veda Adelle Morrow Jackson; sisters, Tara M. McMahan of Jackson; Amanda J. (Matt) Brasfield of Jackson; nieces and nephews, Miss Kaitlyn McMahan who was the apple of his eyes and with whom he loved as his own, of Jackson; Peyton McMahan of Jackson; Kayleigh Brasfield of Jackson; Skylar Brasfield of Jackson; Matthew Brasfield of Jackson; his step grandfather, Martin Deen of Columbia; and his best friend, Hope Dale Hudson of Williamsport; along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Gary was preceded in death by his twin brother, Terry Richard Jackson; his father, Mark Neil Jackson; his paternal grandmother, Mary Fitzgerald Jackson Deen and his maternal grandparents, Hubert and Ruby Morrow.
The family would like to express at this time how very proud we are of Gary, and we are able to find comfort in Gary’s last act of unwavering selflessness for others by being an organ donor. Through his generous donation he was able to give the gift of life to 3 others, and was able to make life changes for numerous others. So not only will he live on in our memories, but he will live on in those lives unknown.
The family will visit with friends on Thursday, February 8, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 8:00pm at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home in Columbia, TN Condolences may be extended on line at www.oakesandnichols.com. In lieu of flowers feel free to donate in Gary’s name to the Humphries County Animal Shelter, 108 Young Road, Waverly, TN 37134.
