Gary Lee Fox Sr. Gary Lee Fox Sr., aged 78, passed away on October 19, 2024 at his home in Athens, Alabama surrounded by his family. Born on August 6, 1946, in Covington Kentucky, Gary dedicated much of his life to his family and serving his country and community.

A proud decorated veteran, Gary served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, notably at the battle of Khe Sahn where he earned his Purple Heart and several other notable medals. His military service was marked by bravery and commitment to his fellow Marines. After his military service, Gary continued his life of service as police officer in Richmond Kentucky, police officer in Athens Al, undercover narcotic agent, an Alabama State Trooper and later as an agent with the Alabama Bureau of Investigation, from which he retired.

Gary was an alumnus of Boone County High School in Boone County Kentucky and later attended Eastern Kentucky University where he obtained his bachelors degree in Criminal Justice, which helped pave the way for his distinguished careers. He was a faithful Christian who loved sharing his testimony with others in all areas of his life and was an active member of Berea Baptist Church in Athens, Al.

Gary had a variety of things he loved doing. From riding motorcycles, fishing, hunting playing golf and keeping up with old friends and military buddies on Facebook. He was deeply loved by his family and friends and is survived by his wife of 58 years, Kathy Reilly Fox, sons Gary Lee Jr (Sheree), Jimmy (Penny), daughter Laura Spring (Mitch), and son Jason, his brother “Billy” Dale (Karen) along with 7 cherished grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, numerous brother and sister-laws, nieces, nephews and special cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents William A (Ozzie) and Elizabeth Ardelle (Tupman) Fox.

Visitation will be held at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home in Athens, Alabama, on Tuesday, October 22 from 6pm-9pm. The funeral service will take place at Berea Baptist Church on Wednesday, October 23rd at 11 am, followed by a graveside burial with military honors at Sardis Springs Baptist Church.

Limestone Chapel Funeral Home is assisting the family during this time.
