Gary Lane (Popeye) Comer was born March 16, 1966 in Corinth, MS the son of the late George Edward and Mardell McClain Comer.
Following graduation from McNairy Central High School, Popeye went to work for the Rinehart family of Guys and stayed with them for approximately 38 years, ginning cotton, farming, and later working for Rinehart Machine Shop. Popeye was a tinkerer-he enjoyed fixing old mowers and tools then giving them away. Attending yard sales, visiting with family and friends, riding the backroads, and listening to bluegrass and gospel music were among his favorite activities.
Popeye departed this life on February 14, 2023 in Tupelo, Mississippi at the age of 56 Years, 10 Months, 29 Days. He is survived by a son, Cody Comer and wife Audrey Beth of Ramer, TN; a grandchild, Hagen Comer; a brother, Jerry Comer and wife Deanna of Stantonville, TN; two sisters, Sherry Vincent and husband James of Corinth, MS and Cheryl Comer and husband Chris of Henderson, TN; 5 nephews; 3 nieces; and many extended family and friends.
