Gary Huckaby passed away peacefully at his home on the morning of February 14, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
Gary is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Stacey Sproles Huckaby; daughters, Margaret McKenzie Huckaby and Sara Davey Huckaby; his mother and father, Jeanne Davey Huckaby and Gary Carlton Huckaby, Sr; two brothers, John Stephen Huckaby and Michael Stewart Huckaby; godmother and aunt, Helen Davey; and uncle, Richard Harvey Huckaby.
Gary attended Huntsville High School in Huntsville, Alabama. He received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and earned his Master of Science in Experimental Psychology, along with a Doctor of Philosophy in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the University of Mississippi in Oxford.
Gary dedicated his life to his family, community, teaching, and helping others. In addition to him encouraging, coaching, and empowering his own children, Gary invested in the youth of the Huntsville community through mentoring, sport psychology and coaching, Junior Achievement, and fraternal advisement. For many years he was a Board Member of Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Club, 29:11 Inc., and the Huntsville Museum of Art. He was a speaker and volunteer for endless community events and non-profit organizations, never passing on an opportunity to make a difference.
Gary was the founder of Huckaby Consulting in Huntsville, where he practiced for 30 years performing national keynote speeches, leadership training, executive coaching, and specialized employment and organizational development. His dedication to academia included numerous guest lecturing, past Graduate Instructorship at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, past Assistant Professor at the University of Alabama in Huntsville in Psychology, and current Assistant Professor of Management in the College of Business at Athens State University in Athens, Alabama.
Gary was a member of First United Methodist Church of Huntsville. Visitation will be from 2 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, February 19 at First United Methodist Church. The memorial service will immediately follow at the church with the Rev. Coy Hallmark and Rev. Dr. Bill Crosby officiating.
The family requests that memorials be sent to The Vine Pastoral Counseling Center, 333 Franklin Street SE # 300, Huntsville, AL 35801 to provide counseling services to patients on a sliding scale, or First United Methodist Church, 120 Greene Street SE, Huntsville, AL 35801. First United Methodist has provided tireless spiritual guidance and support. Athens State University has also set up a scholarship account in memory of Gary. Funds donated will be used to assist students in the College of Business at Athens State University.
