Funeral service for Gary Garner, 66, will be Friday, March 25, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Danville Baptist Church with Bro. Joe David Bailey officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Shoal Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, March 25, 2016 from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Church.
Mr. Garner died on Sunday, March 20, 2016 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was born May 23, 1949, in Morgan County to James Leonard Garner and Velma Inez Breedlove Garner.
Gary married Jan Lipscomb on July 12, 1974. On May 21, 1981, they welcomed their son, Blake. He and his brothers’ managed Ironman Grocery and farmed for 20 years. He was a homebuilder for 35 years. His goal was to build the best house he could for his clients.
Gary served as President of the Hartselle Dixie Youth Baseball from 1993-1997. Under his leadership, 3 new fields for 5-9 year olds, a pressbox and concession stand, as well as a varsity pressbox at Reuben Sims field, were constructed. Gary’s joy in life came from helping others and spending time with his grand-daughter, Lily Kate. Gardening, crappie fishing and deer hunting were passions of Gary’s, that he enjoyed sharing with his son, Blake, and many of his friends. His magnetic personality and generous nature drew people to him and accounted for his many friends.
Gary attended Danville Baptist Church, where he enjoyed participating in small groups and helping with church projects, donating his time, talents and gifts.

Pallbearers will be Cory Garner, Randy Maner, Ronald Britnell, Louie Crow, Ronnie Lewis, Danny Lewis. Larry Segars and Fred Stephenson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother: Frank Garner.
