Gary Dewayne Kemp after an extended illness died Tuesday, February 14, 2023. He was born June 30, 1973, in Tupelo to June Dill and J.B. Payne. After the untimely death of his mother, Dewayne, along with his three brothers, was adopted by Robert Junior and Nancy Lee Dill Kemp. Dewayne was a carpenter and roofer during his working life. While his health allowed, he attended Boguefala Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending his time outdoors four-wheel riding, fishing, and especially hunting. During hunting season, he could not be found anywhere but in the woods taking anyone willing along with him.

Dewayne is survived by his four children, Gary “Michael” Zaccheo of Tupelo, Joseph Zaccheo (Kacee) of Guntown, Caitlynn Chilcoat of Fulton, and Katherine Kemp of Mooreville, and her mother, Melissa Williams; one step-son, Tanner Gray (Lauren) of Mantachie; four grandchildren; father, Robert Kemp of Mantachie; significant other and caregiver, Patty Jo Rock of Mantachie; four brothers, Robert Kemp (Melissa) of Mantachie, Randy Kemp (Jenifer) of Peaceful Valley, Danny Kemp of Evergreen, and James “Matthew” Kemp of Mantachie; half-siblings, Ryan Payne (Jessie) of Fulton, Amber Taylor (James) of Baldwyn, George Gale (Terry) of Fulton, and Scotty Brazil (Nicole); and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Kemp and his biological mother, June Payne and biological father, J. B. Payne and his wife, Pam.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time Monday, February 20, 2023, at Pegues, Tupelo.

A memorial service honoring his life will be 3 p.m. Monday, February 20, 2023, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues.
