Garvie-Bennefield-1445002091Garvie Vernell Bennefield, 89 of the Hulaco Area, Baileyton died Thursday, October 15, 2015 at his residence.

Mr. Bennefield was born May 21, 1926 in Joppa, Alabama the son of Serbon Roy Bennefield and Annie M. Mabry Bennefield. He was a high school and college graduate and served in the United States Army and also in the Army National Guard, Honorably Discharged as PFC.

He was a self employed poultry and cattle farmer, and had lived in the Hulaco area for most of his life, where he was a member of the Ryan Baptist Church. He was married to the former Nepp-Lois Bolding (Bennefield) May 8, 2015.

He and the former Lavada Ann Nunnelley (Bennefield) were married 31 years when she preceded him in death February 3, 2013.

He is survived by his wife: Nepp-Lois Bennefield; a son and daughter-in-law: Richard Miles Bennefield and his wife, Terri; two step sons: Bruce Randall Light and Michael Alan Light and his wife, Sharon; two grandsons: Kristopher Bennefield and Brandon Light and his wife, Heidi; a granddaughter: Amanda Light; two great grandsons: Jack and Sam Light and a sister: Mary Nadine Porter.

Funeral Service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 19, 2015 at Ryan Baptist Church, Brother Terry Hudson, Brother Eldridge Criscoe, Brother Michael King and Brother Willis Hill, officiating. Burial will be in Ryan Cemetery, Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, directing.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel. He will also lie-in-state at the Church on Monday, the day of the service, from 12 noon until service time at 2 p.m.
