Garner M. Ezell, Sr., age 92, was gathered to his people on Sunday, December 8, 2024.
Mr. Ezell was the son of Crutcher and Millie Ezell of Bonnertown, TN.
He is survived by his wife of seventy years, JoAnn Sanders Ezell of Lawrenceburg, TN; three sons: Garner Ezell, Jr.(Deb) of Athens, AL; Don Ezell of Florence, AL; and Ken Ezell (Sherry) of Leoma, TN; six grandchildren, Rob, David, Mac, Mia, Holly, and Cameron; five great-grandchildren, Cooper, Brodie, Sam, River, and Valorie.
Out of a family of twelve siblings, he is survived by one brother: Sam Ezell (Brenda) of Fayetteville, TN; four sisters: Edith Brown of Five Points, TN; Ima Jean Vandenbos of Evergreen, CO; Betty Evans of Lawrenceburg, TN; and Martha Nelson (Alvin) of Decatur, AL.
He was a graduate of Loretto High School and attended MTSU on a football scholarship. His graduate and post graduate work was completed at Tennessee State.
Mr. Ezell held many titles during his lifetime: son, brother, husband, father, student, football coach, basketball coach, soldier, farmer, teacher, coach, assistant principal, and superintendent. The greatest relationships of his life were husband and Christian.
Honorary pallbearers will be past players and coaches.
Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Neal Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at Leoma Church of Christ on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at 11:00 AM with David Ezell and Garner Ezell, Jr. officiating. Mr. Ezell will lie in state at Leoma Church of Christ on Thursday, December 12, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Leoma Cemetery in Leoma, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Leoma Church of Christ, P.O. Box 80, Leoma, TN 38468.
