- Mary Pauline “Polly” Smallwood, 78, of Tuscumbia, AL passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2023. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 from 6-8 p.m. at Colbert Memorial Chapel. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. in Colbert Memorial Gardens. Kirk Bishop will be officiating. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Flora McBrayer; sister, Lily Jeffreys; In-laws, Wallace and Edna Smallwood; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Jeffreys, Loren McBrayer, and Claudie Byrd. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Wallace Oneal Smallwood of Tuscumbia, AL; sons, Mike Smallwood of Tuscumbia, AL and Barry Smallwood (Laura) of Leighton, AL; sister, Christine Byrd of Tuscumbia, AL; grandchildren, Colton Smallwood of Huntsville, AL and Savannah Smallwood of Muscle Shoals, AL. Pallbearers will be Greg Jeffreys, Victor Byrd, Tommy McCrory, Mike Taylor, Albert McGuyer, and Austin Rainey. Love and appreciation to the staff at Hospice of North Alabama. - William “Billy” David Coggins, 70, of Huntsville, passed away Thursday at Madison Hospital. Billy was born November 5, 1952, in Morgan County to Robert Edward “Shorty” Coggins and Mary Elizabeth Holt Coggins. Billy attended Mayfair Church of Christ. He retired from the Huntsville City School system as a math teacher, basketball coach, and baseball coach. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bobby Coggins. Survivors include his wife, Sharon Coggins; son, Justin Coggins; and brother, Jimmy Coggins, of Decatur. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, September 14, 2023, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The funeral will follow in the chapel with Jason Bybee officiating. Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens.
