THE SHOALS – FreightCar America announced today it will be hosting a job fair to fill between 150 and 200 production team positions at the mile-long railcar plant in Barton, Alabama. The job fair will be held at the Marriott Shoals Conference Center on Tuesday, January 6 from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
FreightCar America is increasing employment in the Shoals area as it expands its orders for railcar manufacturing. “We plan to do most of our hiring at the job fair,” stated Amy Melton, Human Resources Director at FreightCar America. “A good candidate would have previous manufacturing and welding experience, but it is not a requirement. We have a welding school on-site to train incoming employees,” explained Melton.
Candidates must be able to work in an assembly line environment as part of a team and be willing to work any shift. Attendees at the job fair are welcomed to bring their resumes. Potential candidates should complete an AIDT application online prior to the job fair.
Starting pay for production roles is $12 per hour. After serving a 90 day probationary period, welders can make from $14-$16.93 per hour based on weld certifications. FreightCar America offers medical, dental, and vision benefits, 401K participation, paid holidays, paid vacation and tuition assistance.
“This announcement is a great start to the new year,” stated Shoals Chamber of Commerce President Steve Holt. “We are proud to see FreightCar America leveraging the facility in Barton to its full potential. We are excited to see where things go from here.”
“Again, positive news for the Shoals,” added SEDA Vice President Susie Heird. “FreightCar America met its employment goals presented to the SEDA Board in 2013. With this announcement of employment growth beyond initial expectations, FreightCar is experiencing what many other local companies have experienced; that being, the Shoals area understands the needs of the manufacturing industry. SEDA is proud to support FreightCar America in this success.”
“We appreciate the partnership of AIDT, the Shoals Career Center, SEDA and the Shoals Chamber in assisting FreightCar America with the job fair,” added Melton.
FreightCar America has been designing and building high-quality railcars for more than 100 years. The generations of employees responsible for creating its reputation for quality have made FreightCar America the largest North American manufacturer of aluminum railroad freight cars used to haul coal. FreightCar America is now expanding its product line to provide a wide variety of freight cars that will be built at its Shoals Alabama facility.
