Freeda Rister Crowley – Obituary

Freeda Rister Crowley, age 97, of Silerton, departed this life Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

The widow of Paul Crowley, who died on March 19, 2007, she was retired from Western Mental Health Institute where she had worked in the nursing program for 19 1/2 years. Prior to that, she worked as a clerk at several stores in and around the Bolivar area. She was born December 3, 1919, in White County, Illinois, daughter of the late Rev. William Cyrus Rister and Polly Ann Carter Rister and moved to Hardeman County when she was 6 years old, remaining here. She was a graduate of Middleton High School and married Paul Crowley on February 25, 1940. Mrs. Crowley was an active member of Silerton United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Crowley Stack (Grady) of Silerton; a son, Richard Crowley (Rita) of Houston, TX; five grandchildren, David and Glenn Stack, Rick, Whitney and Alan Crowley; 2 great granddaughters, Rachael and Sarah Crowley; 2 great grandsons, Nathan Stack and Matthew Crowley; 2 step great grandchildren, Linda Termuhlen & Kenny Hanes; and 6 step great great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers and 3 sisters. The family requests memorials donations in her name be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation (www.alz.org) or the Silerton Methodist Church.
