Frederick Terral Marthaler, Sr., age 72 of Tuscumbia, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, surrounded by his family, at Brookwood Hospital in Birmingham. His family will receive friends Wednesday November 14th from 11a.m. until 1 p.m. at Tuscumbia Church of Christ with funeral service following in the church sanctuary. Dr. Garry Brantley and Jeff Abrams will officiate and burial will be in Colbert Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Marthaler was a Colbert County native and a member of Tuscumbia Church of Christ. He was a faithful God fearing man who loved his family immensely, especially his grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Pops”. Nothing made “Pops” happier than when he could enjoy spending time with his children and grandchildren at their ballgames, school plays, beach trips and graduations. He and his wife Marjorie have driven thousands of miles over the years tirelessly nurturing the love he felt for his beloved family. He spent 44 years with Occidental Chemical and its’ predecessors and also worked during retirement as a part-time contractor. He was active in his community and civic organizations, and loved his church family deeply.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-three years, Marjorie Riner Marthaler who has been steadfastly by his side during his extended illness; son, Frederick Terral Marthaler Jr. and wife Pam of Decatur and their children, Frederick Terral Marthaler III (Drei), Ryan James Marthaler and Stella Kirsten Marthaler; daughters, Julia Marthaler Hill and husband Craig of Birmingham and their son, Davis Marthaler Hill, Leigh Marthaler Tittle and husband Redus of Decatur, AL and their children, Candice Leigh Tittle, Redus Mathew Tittle and Molly Grace Tittle; brother, Henry William Marthaler, Jr., of Muscle Shoals and sister, Joan Marthaler Tucker of Tuscumbia.
Pallbearers are Harold Kimbrough, Byron Aycock, Scott Hester, Gordon Fennel, Ricky Gist, Bill Marthaler, Ronnie Riner and Chrispin Montgomery.
Honorary Pallbearers are the Elders of Tuscumbia Church of Christ, Peter J. Vials, Dr. Meredith Waddell, Bill Ayers, Bryant Willingham, Charles Clark, Dr. James Ashmore, Gordon Crosswhite, Bobby Denton, Curtis Smallwood, Doug Brown, Sonny Pigford, Terry Copley, Roger Bullough and Carl Nieder.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Tuscumbia Church of Christ building fund or theAmerican Cancer Society .

Sincerest sympathies to all the family. In particular to Joan Marthaler Tucker with whom I communicated many years ago abouit our huge Marthaler/Marthaller family and it’s history.
