Mr. Frederick Rodman "Fred" Peterson Mr. Frederick Rodman Peterson, of Arab, Alabama, passed away at his residence on Monday, February
6, 2023, at the age of 80.
Mr. Peterson was born on June 15, 1942, to Clyde Peterson and Phyllis Peterson in Glen Ridge, New
Jersey. He was married to Edith “Toots” Irene Peterson for 56 years.
Mr. Peterson served in the U.S. Navy for six years which then allowed him to obtain his degree from
Florida Atlantic University. Fred and his family moved to Arab from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida over 43 years
ago. During that time, he served as City Planner for the City of Arab for over 25 years. He was a
member of The American Institute of Certified Planners and other city planning organizations. Fred also
received the Master of Urban and Regional Planning degree from Alabama A&M University. He was a
member of the Arab Optimist Club for numerous years and volunteered at the Arab Animal Shelter.
After his retirement, Fred enjoyed activities such as photography, bird watching and taking OLLI classes
at UAH. He was an avid Alabama fan.
Fred was surrounded by his wife and son as he peacefully slipped away. No words can express how
much he will be missed. His greatest joy came from spending time with family (and his beloved dog,
Rosie). He is survived by his wife: Edith Peterson of Arab; son and daughter-in-law: Steven and Keri
Peterson of Hoover; sisters: Katherine Mims, Patricia Mims; brother-in-law: George Libotte, Jr.; brother-
in-law and sister-in-law: Robert and Diane Libotte.
He was preceded in death by a sister: Judith Peterson
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life and memorial service on Sunday, February
12, 2023. The family will receive visitors from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Arab Heritage Memorial
Chapel. The memorial service, which will be officiated by Brother Terry Hudson, will immediately follow
at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations be made to the Big Oak Ranch (www.bigoak.org) or
Shepherd’s Cove Hospice (www.shepherdscove.org).
