A memorial service for Mr. Frederick (“Fred”) Harold Thompson Jr., age 64, will be held on August 24th at 2pm at Shelton Funeral Home in Trenton, Tennessee. Visitation will be from 12pm-2pm.
Fred passed in his home on August 14, 2024. Fred was born in Rutherford, Tennessee on March 20, 1960, to Frederick Harold Thompson, Sr. and Beth Page Thompson.
Fred graduated from Peabody High School in Trenton and attended the University of Tennessee at Martin where he was an accomplished musician. His expertise was the trumpet, and he played with the UTM jazz band. He could also pick up any instrument and play by ear. After spending several years working in the John Deere business, Fred felt a call to the ministry and started and pastored Dwell Church of Jackson. Fred was notorious for partying in college, which made him becoming a pastor a great joy and surprise to his college friends. He loved helping people. If he had a $100 dollar bill in his pocket and came across someone in need, he knew God had placed it there for that purpose. He was also very involved in prison ministry and spent a lot of time over the years at West Tennessee State Prison in Henning. Fred loved to cook, a trait his grandfather also had. He opened a restaurant named after “Pop,” where people would drive from Memphis for his delicious ribs.
Although Fred had many hobbies and interests, his life was centered around his late wife, Vickie whom he was married to for 41 years. Anyone who knew Fred, knew Vickie was the love of his life whom he adored. Fred and Vickie were childhood sweethearts. He often told the story of their first kiss in the backyard of her childhood home at the age of seven. Fred and Vickie ministered to many people over the years and positively impacted the lives of many. The family finds great peace in knowing the two are now reunited and rejoicing together in heaven.
Fred is survived by his children – Trey Thompson and Claire Hooper (Jason). His grandchildren – Alaina, Mary, Stafford and Drake (Grace). And his two sisters – Amy Pearson (Denton) and Denise Hensley (David).
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
