Fred Woodard Elliott, 85, of Columbia, passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2021, at his daughter’s home in Clarksville.
Mr. Elliott was the son of the late Reverend James Cullom Elliott and Essie Welch Elliott. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Lurline Meador Elliott; daughters, Lori Elliott Buchanan of Clarksville, TN and Linda Elliott of Denton, TX; grandson Jonathan Elliott (Heather) Buchanan; and five great grandchildren, all of Clarksville, TN. He was born in Big Rock in Stewart County and was a long time resident of Columbia.
Mr. Elliott graduated from Charlotte High School and Martin Methodist College. After college, he briefly worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C. He worked in the control laboratory for DuPont and Spontex for 40 years. He was a faithful Christian and member of Riverside United Methodist Church. He belonged to the Dimple of the Universe Camping Club. A kind, gentle man, Mr. Elliott dearly loved his family. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed reading, camping and music.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy (John) McFarland, and brothers, James (Donna) Elliott, Robert Elliott and William Elliott. He is survived by sisters-in-law Betty Elliott and Peggy Elliott.
Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. A private graveside service will be led by Reverend James Norton. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a memorial service celebrating Mr. Elliott’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Riverside United Methodist Church.
