Fred True Adair, 93, passed away Monday at Signature Healthcare of Whitesburg Gardens Nursing Home. Fred was born in Madison Co., Alabama, to parents Jesse Blane Adair, Sr. and Cora Ethel Elkins Adair (both deceased). He married Lillian Joyce Gibbs, November 25, 1944 in Madison Co., Alabama. She preceded him in death on January 1, 2001. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by five sisters, three brothers, and two half-brothers.
Survivors include daughters, Martha Ann Adair Askins (son-in-law deceased) and Kimberly D. Adair Moon (spouse, Michael Moon); grandsons, Edward Brent Askins and Brian Adair Askins; granddaughter, Jessica Michelle Moon; and two half-sisters Linda Lyle and Shirley Durham.
Fred enlisted in the Army Air Corps on February 25, 1945 and served in the Philippines and Hawaii during World War II. He subsequently worked for NASA at the Marshall Space Flight Center. After retiring from NASA, he started his own business, Adair Appliance Repair, which he continued until he was in his mid-80s.
Fred was a member of Southside Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and head of the Building & Grounds Committee for years.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Huntsville Memory Gardens with the Revs. Bob Blackburn and Fred B. Smith III officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
