Fred Mixon Segrest Sr., born in Montgomery, Alabama on 1 July 1937, passed into the next life on Friday, 7 June 2024, at the age of 86.
Although he is dearly missed by his wife, two children, and five grandchildren, we have hope in the fact that he has rejoined his parents, brothers, and many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins, and that we will join him again one day.
A Huntsville resident for over 60 years, he was a lifelong Christian, and member at Mayfair, and later Twickenham churches of Christ.
Because he lost his parents in his teens, his family was the most important thing to him in this world, all of whom have been greatly blessed by his life, his great sense of humor, and his patient and generous spirit.
Due to their loyalty and dedication, he naturally found a great friendship with the many dogs that he owned over the years.
He met his wife, Gail, at her first visit to Mayfair Church of Christ after she had moved to Huntsville to work at Madison Academy. They were married on 5 June 1971 within a year of their first meeting; and were together for their 53rd anniversary shortly before he passed.
After graduating from high school in 1955 from University Military School in Mobile, Alabama, in 1960 he earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Accounting from Alabama Polytechnic (Auburn) University, and later a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Alabama A & M (1974).
He served for one year as Army Reservist, then for four years as Air Force Reservist. He retired in January of 1997 as a Chief Contracting Officer with over 35 years of service at Space and Missile Command on Redstone Arsenal, and was loved by superiors, coworkers, and subordinates alike. He also served as a board member at Redstone Federal Credit Union.
He is survived by wife, Gail; son, Rick (Lara) Segrest; daughter, Millie (Mark) Perrigon; and was proudest of his five grandchildren: identical twins, Charlotte and Olivia (12), and John Isaac Segrest (8); Caleb (5) and Lyla (3) Perrigon.
He was predeceased by father and mother, John Worth and Ella Bell (Harbin) Segrest; and brothers, Dan Harbin Segrest, John Howard Segrest, and Rodney Segrest.
Services will be held at Laughlin Service Funeral Home on Tuesday 11 June 2024, with a visitation at 12:00 and the funeral at 1:00, with a short graveside service to follow at Maple Hill Cemetery.
