On Thursday, December 15, Dr. Fred Keith Darty, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away at age eighty-four. He was born to Curtis and Grace Darty of Carbon Hill, Alabama. He received his Doctorate from the University of Alabama, Birmingham. Fred had a private practice in Warner Robins, Georgia for many years before retiring and returning to Alabama.Fred is survived by his wife of 62 years, May Darty, his beloved daughter Pamela (Michael) Durie, Tuscaloosa, AL, precious grand-daughter Kara Durie Tuscaloosa, AL, and daughter-in-law Ashley Darty (Northport, AL). He was preceded in death by his only son, Fred Keith Darty Jr., a few years ago and his brothers Dr. Curtis Darty, Dr. Harry Darty, Herbert Darty, Hosmer Darty, and Landon Darty. Fred had been an athletic man, receiving a football scholarship to Middle Georgia College and later to the University of Tennessee. Fred and May met in college and after graduation, they were married. After dental school, their only daughter, Pamela, was born. A few years later she was followed by her brother, and their son, Keith. Fred had a special connection with his only grandchild, Kara, who was the apple of his eye. After his retirement, Fred became a successful businessman. He was a life-long outdoorsman and was honored to be in an edition of Outdoor Life Magazine. He shared his knowledge and love of the outdoors with his wife, children, and grandchild. Fred loved the Lord and helped spread His message through Full Gospel Business Men Fellowship International, prison ministry and other outreach organizations. Pallbearers are David Darty, Jacob Darty, Jon Darty, Lan Darty, Mark Darty, and Michael Durie. Honorary Pallbearers are Mike Darty, Steve Darty and Mitch Darty. Visitation will be held at Kilgore Green Funeral Home in Jasper, AL on Tuesday December 20, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The graveside service will be held at Springhill Community Church in Nauvoo, AL at 2:00p.m. Memorials may be sent from Melissa’s Flowers to Kilgore Green Funeral Home.
