Fred Felton Dowdy, 83, of Florence, passed away April 4, 2024 at his residence. He was a retired veteran of the United States Army and National Guard, as well as a machinist and car salesman.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 7, 2024 from 12-2 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Brother Sonny Owens officiating. Burial will follow in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens with military funeral honors.
Mr. Dowdy was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis E. Dowdy and Jewel E. Dowdy, his daughter, Pamela Rich Townsend; brothers, Floyd and Jimmy Dowdy; sister, Barbara McMurtrey; and nephew, Curt Dowdy.
He is survived his wife of 55 years, Carolyn Dowdy; daughter, Lori Kaye Newell (Benjie); son-in-law, James Townsend; brother, Gene Dowdy; grandchildren, Courtney Warden (Andy), Teddy Schell (Stephanie), Ryan Gattman, Katherine Gattman (Jake), and Lane and Cade Newell; great-grandchildren, Tripp, McKensie, Henry and Owen Schell; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Benjie Newell, James Townsend, Teddy Schell, Lane Newell, Cade Newell, and Tripp Schell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dale Dowdy, Jamie Dowdy, Randy McMurtrey, Andy Warden, David Fenn, and Greg Peeden.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Deanna Reynolds for her loving care, and his granddaughter who was constantly by his side.
