Fred A. Long Fred A Long, Jr., 86, of Iuka, Mississippi, died on Friday, November 3, 2023, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Fred was born on December 7, 1936, to the late Fred A. Long, Sr., and Eddie E. Long. He graduated from Holcut High School in 1955 as Class President and Valedictorian.

Fred then attended Mississippi State University and received his Bachelor’s of Engineering degree in 1960. While attending college, Fred was given the opportunity to join the Mississippi Highway Department’s new Co-Op program, and was employed as one of the first, of two, Co-op students in the State.

After graduating from college, Fred continued to work for the Mississippi Highway Department, now the Mississippi Department of Transportation, for forty-five years as a Civil Engineer.

After retirement, Fred continued working alongside his wife, Grace, in their real estate business and income tax franchises. Fred was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan for over seventy-five years, and he was also a fan of Mississippi State University sports.

He was a family man and enjoyed researching his family’s genealogy. He loved his family and cherished any time he spent with them, especially his grandchildren.

Fred is survived by his children, Stevie Long (Dodi) and Jana Long Bormann (Jason); his daughter-in-law, Amanda Long; his grandchildren, Logan Long (Cari), Lauren Long, Abigail Long, Avery Dawson, Dillion Long, Garett Long, Maegan McGarity (Denny), Jaycie Ivey (Josh), Isaac Bormann (Melody), and J.T. Dado; and his great-grandchildren, Davis Long, Dexter Long, and Dolly Ivey. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Long; his son, Darryl Long; and his parents, Fred and Eddie Long.

Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka is entrusted with the arrangements. Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 6, 2023, at Cutshall Funeral Home in Iuka. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka. Pallbearers include Jason Bormann, Logan Long, Dillon Long, Garett Long, Isaac Bormann, and Jake Cobb. A private family burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
