Franklin E. “Gene” Castleberry

Franklin E. “Gene” Castleberry, 87, of Cullman, Alabama, passed away on May 28, 2022. He was born to Jernigan and Nellie Kilcrease Castleberry on August 30, 1934, in Griffin, Georgia.

Mr. Castleberry was a member of Center Point Baptist Church. Gene served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. He also served as the Chief of Police in Stockbridge, Georgia.  Mr. Castleberry loved playing the guitar and enjoyed golfing. He had a gift for growing roses and his talent could be seen in his beautiful rose gardens.

Gene is proceeded in death by his parents; his wife, JoAnn Weeks Graham; son, Alan Castleberry; brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Nina Castleberry; and sisters, Ethylene Aaron, Vivian and Jesse King.

He is survived by his daughters, Wanda and James Latham, Bonnie and Paul Thweatt; grandchildren, Ricky A Calhoun Jr., and Justine, Kyle and Jana Calhoun, Adam and Lauren Reeves, Ryan and Catherine Reeves; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; dear friend, Shirley Nail; and his Center Point Baptist Church family.

Funeral services for Mr. Castleberry are 11:30 a.m., Thursday, June 2, 2022, in the Holly Pond Funeral Home Chapel, with Darryl Bailey officiating. Mr. Castleberry will lie in state an hour prior to service time.  Burial will follow in Center Point Cemetery where Kyle Calhoun, Adam Reeves, Ryan Reeves, Darryl Thweatt, Charles Crawford, and James Latham will serve as pallbearers. Friends are invited to visit with the family, at the funeral home, on Wednesday evening, June 1, 2022, from 6 p.m., until 8 p.m.
