Franklin Delano Johnson, “F.D.”, 90, of Athens, passed away Friday, November 15, 2024 at his residence.Mr. Johnson was born April 5, 1934 in Limestone County to Grady Johnson and Minnie Bickerstaff Johnson.
F.D. is preceded in death by his parents; brother Dewey Johnson; sisters Lutie Emberson; Ruth Hamsley; daughter Gwen Hardee; and great-grandson Jonah Crabtree.
Survivors include his loving wife, Betty, of over 70 years; son Tim Johnson (Doreen); daughters Gina Richter(Brent), Lori Crabtree(Chris); son-in-law Cary Hardee; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; sister Betty Jean Wallace, and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Johnson served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He was a member of New Georgia Church of Christ, an avid Alabama football fan. He could often be found watching the evening news or gardening.
Services will be Monday November 18, 2024 at McConnell Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 12:30-2 pm. A service in his honor will be held at 2pm with burial to follow at Bottoms Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Lee Johnson and Tim Long.
