Obituary of James Franklin “Frank” Crawford Frank Crawford of Gurley, AL passed away peacefully on December 1, 2023. He was born and raised in Savannah Georgia.

After graduation from Savannah High School he attended Georgia Tech University where he obtained a degree in Industrial Engineering and then on to the University of Oklahoma to receive a masters degree. engineering. He married the love of his life, Josephine in 1955. Frank served in the military (Army) from 1955-1957 as First Lieutenant. In 1957 he went to work for Armstrong Cork and Blue Bird Bus Co until 1960. Frank served in civil service for the Naval Ordnance Command, and for thirty years (1963-1993) in the Army Missile Command as a Project Engineer for Missile Development at Redstone Arsenal. In 1993 he retired to farm life, raising and selling beef cattle, baling hay in the summer and selling hay in the winter.

Papa as all the grands call him was very active in his church as a Sunday school teacher, deacon and sang in the church choir, often as a soloist.

Frank is survived by his wife of 68 years Josephine Smith Crawford. Three sons, Alvin Crawford (Linda), Stan Crawford (Judy) and Dennis Crawford (Carla) all of Gurley. He is also survived by four grandchildren Stacie Morris, Richard Crawford, Nathan Crawford and Denise Crawford. Also, five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Crawford was preceded in death by his son James Cameron Crawford, his mother Evelyn Crawford, father Thomas Crawford and brothers David, Eddie and Steve Crawford.

Visitation will be at Valhalla Funeral Home 698 Winchester Rd NE, Huntsville AL. 35811 Sunday December 3rd from 1-2pm, following the visitation will be a graveside service at Valhalla Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to your church or favorite charity.
