Francis “Frank” M. Stewart, III, 93, of Huntsville, passed away Tuesday. Mr. Stewart was a 1937 graduate of Jones County High School, Gray, GA, and a 1942 graduate of Georgia Tech, Atlanta, GA. He was a US Army officer, WWII, with service in New Guinea and the Philippines.
Mr. Stewart retired from Marshall Space Flight Center, NASA in 1980. His responsibilities included Project Manager, F-1 Rocket Engine, which boosted Saturn-Apollo on historic manned Lunar Exploration missions.
Mr. Stewart was an avid fisherman and co-authored a book titled Fishing Reels of Kentucky.
Survivors include his wife, Jane H. Stewart; son, Frank M. Stewart, IV and wife, Naomi; and daughter, Cynthia E. Stewart Johnson and husband, Arthur.
