Frances Thomson George

We said goodbye to our beautiful Fancy – wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend – on Tuesday, November 19th, 2024 as she went to be with the Lord.

Frances Thomson George was born in Starkville, MS on June 10, 1954 to Wilmot and Peggy Thomson. Her happy childhood was spent with her brothers, Joe and Jim, growing up on Greensboro Street. Fancy attended Starkville High School where she was a member of the basketball team, SHS band, and kept true to her southern roots as a Debutante. She graduated from Mississippi State University in 1974 with a degree in Finance that she earned in 3 years. While at MSU, she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority.

Fancy met and married Ernest “Ernie” George September 30, 1977. They were married for 47 years. Fancy was active in Junior Auxiliary, Women’s Club, Chi Omega Alumni, tennis, bridge, and First Presbyterian Church. She and Ernie were fortunate to travel to many different countries. She loved spending time with her family and cherished the role of GG to her grandkids. Her kindness and love will live on forever.

She is survived by her husband, Ernie; 2 children (Andrew George and wife Stacey, Katie George Iglay and husband Ray), 1 stepson (Thor George and wife Angela), 4 grandchildren (Drew and Katie Clay George, Luke and Maggie Iglay), 2 brothers (Joe and Jim Thomson). She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilmot and Peggy Thomson.

The funeral service will take place Friday, November 22 at 10:30 am at First Presbyterian Church, Starkville, MS. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, PO Box #91891, Washington, DC 20090-1891 or your favorite charity.
