Frances Rose (Veselko) Szabo Batt, 97, of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away on
February 14, 2021. She was born to parents Joseph and Rose, on July 10, 1923 in
Mentor, Ohio.
She graduated from Mentor High School in 1941. Frances worked as a New Claims
Supervisor for the State of Ohio for 25 years retiring in 1988. She loved to compete over
card and board games. She loved to travel, going camping, and was an avid gardener,
growing roses was her specialty. After raising three children, Frances discovered the
sport of bowling. She honed her skills and competed in the Senior Olympics in 2009,
2011, and 2013 and continued to bowl until age 94.
She is survived by her sons A. Thomas (Diane) Szabo of Concord Twp., OH and
Michael Szabo of Oak Island, NC; daughter, Kathleen Szabo (Jon Mumma) of Columbia,
TN; grandchildren: Kristina (Bobbie) Pugh, Andrea (Lynn) Brown and Amy (Ben)
Tennant; great-grandchildren: Elwood, Kate, Milly, and James Tennant, Gabriel and
Gwen Brown, and Lizzie Pugh; brother-in-law, James Reho; she was loved by Andy
Mumma, Janelle Wood, Andy and Amanda Mumma and children Miles and Julianna;
Terese “Terri” and Tom Salvatore, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in
death by her husbands Andrew Szabo and Walter Batt; brother Rudy (Marge) Veselko
Sr., Joseph Veselko and Stanley (Ada) Shore; sisters Helen (Ken) Lamer and Annette
Reho.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 am – 10:30 am Monday, February 22, 2021, at
St. John Vianney Church, 7575 Bellflower Rd., Mentor, OH 44060. A funeral mass will
be held at 10:30 am Monday at the church. Masks are required and social distancing is
encouraged during all publicly attended events.
Interment will be in Mentor Cemetery.
