Frances Matilda Mills Marshall, 95, entered Life Eternal on Thursday, May 14. Mrs. Marshall was born and raised in Roanoke, VA. She received her education in nursing from the Brooklyn School of Nursing in New York City. She married Emerson S. Marshall at the “Little Church Around the Corner” in New York City in 1943, and moved, with her family, to Huntsville in 1961.
Mrs. Marshall was a registered nurse and worked at Huntsville Hospital for 20 years. She served as head charge nurse and later as supervising nurse over both ICU and CCU. She became head of the Graduate Nurse Training program until her retirement in the 1980’s. She was recognized as “Nurse of the Year” for Madison County in the 1970’s. After retirement, she volunteered her nursing skills for both the Red Cross and Huntsville Hospital. Mrs. Marshall was an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church for the past 54 years and a member of P.E.O. International, Chapter J.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Emerson S. Marshall. Survivors include children, Patricia Marshall Coats (Bob), Jack Emerson Marshall (Laura) of Knoxville, TN, and Linda Marshall Mace (Dave) of Birmingham; grandchildren, Linda Frances Coats of Madison, Deborah Coats Rogers (Bruce) of Chesapeake, VA, Charles Coats (Lyndsay) of Harvest, Andrew Mace of Huntsville, Anna, Paul and Jane Mace of Birmingham, Joy Marshall of Knoxville; great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Alex, Thomas, Brian, Samantha and Emily; siblings, Jeannette White of Roanoke, VA, Nancy Winn of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Herbert Mills of Banning CA; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 18 at Covenant Presbyterian Church on Drake Avenue, with reception to follow.
