Dr. Frances M Schall Dr. Frances M Schall
August 19, 1937 – October 29, 2024
Frances was born in Florence Alabama to Karl H Schall and Minnie L Smith. Frances’s life partner, Nadine Bevis, preceded her in death. Frances had cousins that she always thought of as sisters, Mary Lou Burr, Rose Russell, Sarah Strom and Kate Schall.
Dr. Frances Schall was a graduate of the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1959. From there Frances went to the St. Thomas School of Nursing in Nashville Tennessee and earned her degree in nursing in 1969. Frances continued her education, earning a Master of Science Degree in Nursing from Vanderbilt University in 1979 and then her Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from Texas Woman’s University in 1989.
Frances started her career as a teacher at Russellville Junior High in Russellville Alabama in 1962. Frances’s first nursing job was at Colonial Manor Hospital in Florence Alabama as a charge nurse. Her first jobs in teaching nursing were at Lewis Clark State College and Boise State University as an assistant professor in nursing. Frances’s last stop in her career was at The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth Minnesota. Frances spent 12 years there and worked her way from Associate Professor of Nursing to the Director of the Graduate Program in Nursing. Frances retired in June 1998 and moved to Bradenton, Florida in 1999 where she lived until her passing.
One of the things Frances was most proud of was being a Godmother to Charles Burr, Sally Kilpatrick and Jessica Cloutier. She enjoyed being an aunt to many. She was famous for her pitstops, dropping in from far away for short, usually unexpected visits. One of her favorite hobbies was playing cards and board games. Aunt Frances and Aunt Nadine loved to travel the country in their RV. She so loved Disney that she took a seasonal position as a cast member taking room service orders.
When Frances and Nadine retired in Bradenton, moving near her cousins/sisters, the bonds became even stronger. They made many friends in the tight knit community of Sea Breeze Estates. Of those friends Betsy and Larry were adopted into the family. In her final days she was surrounded by loved ones. She will be truly missed by many.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Saint Jude Research Hospital, a charity that Frances held close to her heart. https://www.stjude.org/donate
