Frances Lee Riley Sweat

Frances Lee Riley Sweat, 97, of Corinth, Mississippi passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2024 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born, September 15, 1927 to the late Wilbur F. and Richard Callaway Riley.

Ms. Sweat was educated in the Tupelo public school system and a graduate of Randolph College in Lynchburg, Virginia. She worked for a time in New York City, New York before marrying her husband Dr. Tommy Sweat Sr. September 30, 1950. She was a devout member of First Methodist Church in Corinth, Mississippi. She served for many years on the Corinth YMCA Board. Ms. Sweat was also a founding member of the Junior Auxiliary of Corinth, Mississippi. She was an outdoorsman where she enjoyed playing tennis, walking, and, running. Ms. Sweat will be missed by her family, community, and the people’s lives she touched in many ways.

Ms. Sweat is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tommy Sweat Sr.; cousin, Frank Allen Riley of Tupelo, Mississippi.

Ms. Sweat is survived by her three children, Thomas L. Sweat, of Corinth, Mississippi, Anne Thompson, of Johnson City, Tennessee, and Richard Riley, of Nashville, Tennessee; nine grandchildren, Wiles Sweat, Laney Hudson, Thomas R. Sweat, Bett Thompson, May McInnis, Grace Thompson, Watson Sweat, Riley Sweat Jr. and Cayce Sweat; six great grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to The Living Healthy Free Medical Clinic in Corinth, Mississippi which her and her husband founded. Donations may be made in their name.

A visitation for Frances will be held Sunday, December 1, 2024 from one o’clock in the afternoon until service time at McPeters Funeral Directors, 1951 East Third Street, Corinth, Mississippi 38834, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at two o’clock in the afternoon with Rev. Kim Ratliff officiating.

The family has entrusted the care for the arrangements to the staff of McPeters Funeral Directors in Corinth, Mississippi.
