Frances Jean Cornett, formerly of Huntsville, died Thursday after a long illness. Born Eula Jane Frances Cook in Mullins, WV, on June 24, 1926, she dropped her first name early, but throughout her life, her friends and family referred to her simply as “Pat.” She was beloved by her family and friends, particularly her daughter Barbara Tolbert of Smyrna, GA, and granddaughters Lara Tolbert of Seattle, WA, Sara Tolbert of Tucson, AZ, and Katie Tolbert of Knoxville, TN. She was the love of her husband, George Cornett, throughout their 62 years of marriage until his death in 2005. A disabled daughter, Gloria Cornett, lived with her until Gloria’s death in 2013.

She was always interested in nursing, and earned a diploma as a nurse and served many years in the office of Dr. Anne Wouters in Huntsville. She was a long-time member of Southside Baptist Church until her move to Marietta, GA, to be close to her daughter.

She is survived by two sisters, Betty Toungett of Bloomington, IL, and Jacqueline Mote of Troy, Ohio. She was also a happy great-grandmother to four girls, who remember her fondly for her impish sense of humor. She will be dearly missed.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will be in Faith Memorial Park.
