Frances Gore Todd of Guntersville, Alabama, passed away peacefully Sunday
afternoon, September 8, 2024, in the presence of family members at Marshall Manor
Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Frances was 89 years old.
Frances was born March 4, 1935, to the late Walter and Hattie Gore, of Albertville, AL.
She was one of 12 children born to the Gore family where farming was their livelihood.
She often stated how she “never wanted to pick another potato in her life,” but oh how
she could cook them! Frances was an amazing cook and enjoyed singing in the choir at
First Baptist Church in Guntersville, Alabama. She loved her children, grandchildren,
great-grandchildren, parents, siblings, and friends and you always felt welcomed at
holidays around her table. Frances also loved the Lord, her Sunday school class, and
Alabama football. She was known for her various collections: Santa Claus’s, Precious
Memories, teapots, and Beanie Babies.
In May of 1973, Frances married Earl Wayne Todd of Alder Springs, Alabama and
instantly became a family of 7 with her children: Phil, Luanne, and Bill Wilkes and
Wayne’s two girls, Annette and Lisa Todd…a family of 8 (if you counted the family
monkey, Tony). Wayne Todd was the ‘love of her life’ and they were married 45 years
until Wayne’s passing in 2018. Frances worked for the Department of Agriculture until
retirement, then worked for Guntersville Memorial and Carr Funeral Home. You could
always find her on election days volunteering at the voting polls.
Frances is survived by her children, Phil Wilkes (Karen), Luanne Evans, Bill Wilkes
(Denise); stepdaughters Annette Todd, and Lisa Bunch (Buddy); 11 grandchildren, 11
great grandchildren; brother Wayne Gore, sister Betty Branum, and sister Margie Black
(Allen).
Visitation will be held at Guntersville Memorial Chapel, 1601 Henry Street, Guntersville,
Alabama on Saturday, September 14, 2024, from 12:00-2:00 pm. A memorial service
will follow at 2:00 pm.
