MUSCLE SHOALS-Four was the magic number for a set of brothers on the Muscle Shoals High School Wrestling team. The MSHS team traveled this past weekend to the Arab Invitational Individual tournament. This tournament has traditionally been a preview of potential state match ups for February. Twin brothers Joseph and James Green along with Arick and Brennen Shankles each managed to earn a spot on the podium at the conclusion of the tournament. At 113lbs, 3x state champion, Arick Shankles repeated his performance from last year, pinning his opponent from Davy Crockett High School during the first period of the finals to win the tournament championship. This was followed by 120lb Brennen Shankles taking third place with a win over 6A rival Arab. The 126lb final was a battle between state runner up, Joseph Green and 2x state champion, BJ Hayes of Arab. Hayes edged out Green 4-2 for the 
tournament win. At 132lb Greyson Beaver was one match away from placing with a 5-2 loss to state placer Dunford of Hartselle. Beaver ended up 3-2 on the weekend. A weight class shift for Jake Armstrong at 138lb resulted in two close matches for a 0-2 record. In the 145lb weight class, Hunter Hall went 1-2 on the weekend with one pinfall. James Green (152lb) went 4-1 for the weekend facing 6A opponent Quattlebaum in the consolation finals to win third place. The 160lb weight class featured Braden Barnes with a 2-2 record for the weekend falling to local rival Deshler High. Dakota Rosson (170lb) and Marlon Whiteside (195lb) each went 0-2 to round out the lineup.
The Muscle Shoals wrestling team will be traveling to Austin High School , Tuesday, January 13, 2015 followed by a home match at MSHS on Thursday, January 15 versus Wilson HS and New Hope HS. The team will finish out the weekend at the Homewood Duals on Friday and Saturday.
