Fort Payne Man Dies From Injuries Received In Auto Crash After Pursuit By Police

FORT PAYNE-The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency reports a man died from injuries received in the crash and a teen was sent to hospital with injuries:

“A single-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 2:49 a.m. Saturday, July 13, has claimed the life of a Fort Payne man.

Cody W. Ashley, 19, was fatally injured when the 2020 Nissan Maxima he was driving left the roadway, struck a utility pole, a tree and then overturned. Ashley was pronounced deceased at the scene. A 16-year-old juvenile, who was a passenger in the Nissan, was injured and transported to an area hospital for treatment. Ashley was being pursued by a Police Officer with the Fort Payne Police Department at the time of the crash.

The crash occurred on Dekalb County 248, approximately two miles south of Fort Payne, in Dekalb County.

Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.”
