Funeral service for Forrest Ray Garrison, age 85, of Hillsboro will be 3:00 p.m.. on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at Parkway Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Brandon Kerby and Bro. Tommy Kirby officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to service. Interment will be in Midway Memorial Gardens.
Forrest, who passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at Decatur Morgan Hospital, was born October 7, 1938, in Moulton, AL. He was one of 11 children born to Roy Lee Garrison and Thelma McMillan Garrison. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Cline Garrison and Rod Garrison; and four sisters, Ann Hill, Betty Vanderslik, Nelda Kennedy, and Glenda Garrison.
Forrest is survived by his wife, Nancy Kirk Garrison of Kalamazoo, MI, whom he met and married when he moved there for work. They soon moved back to Alabama to raise their family. The couple enjoyed 66 years of marriage. Also surviving are his daughter, Terri Glass (Gary) of Decatur; two sons, Mark Garrison and Dale Garrison (Tina), both of Hillsboro; three grandchildren, Scott Glass, Emily Glass, and Allen Garrison (Karley); four sisters, Racine Rasmussen, Becky Gillespie (Phillip), Vickie McCullough (David), and Melinda Allen (Stanley); and many nephews, nieces, extended family, and friends.
Forrest retired at age 62 from the trucking industry. He worked for Bowman Transportation for almost 25 years, and then for Ryder (Saturn) for 12 years. Forrest enjoyed spending time outdoors with his dogs and horses. You could often find him riding his tractor or working in his shop. He was blessed with a long retirement with his wife.
He was a member of Hillsboro Baptist Church for over 45 years, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and handyman for the church.
Pallbearers will be family.
