Forrest Lee Behrens – Obituary

Forrest Lee Behrens, of Florence died Saturday, August 15, 2015, at his residence.

A memorial service will be Tuesday, August 18, 2015, at 4 PM at Elkins Funeral Home with visitation from 3 until time of service, Florence, with John Dupuis officiating.

Mr. Behrens is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Segars Behrens. He and his wife served as foster parents; host to many international students from 104 different countries; godparents to a precious Vietnamese family including two godchildren whom he loved when they called him paopaw; uncle and great uncle to nine nieces and nephews..

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Clifford Behrens and Wayne Behrens; parents, Wallace and Melba Leider Behrens; step-father, Leif Dysband.

He was a graduate of Zion High School in Zion, Illinois, attended Jet Mechanic Schooling, and Computer Schools. He loved giving gifts to charities, especially giving turkeys at Thanksgiving and events for children. He was chairman of the adult department in Sunday school. He enjoyed traveling, cooking, fishing, sports, and gardening. He served in the USMC and was ranked third of 400 as a top marksman.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the University of North Alabama Foundation for The American students study abroad scholarships or to the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation.
