Floyd Reuben Johnson, Jr. age 84 of Athens, passed away Friday, February 28, 2014 at his residence. Mr. Johnson was born November 28, 1929 in Detroit, MI to Floyd R. Johnson, Sr. and Violet Baird Johnson.
Services will be Monday, March 3, 2014 11:00 a.m., at Lindsay Lane Baptist Church with Dusty McLemore, Don Lauderdale and Eddie Gooch officiating. The body will lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Visitation will be Sunday, March 2, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Mr. Johnson was a member of Lindsay Lane Baptist Church, a World War II Veteran. He was a principle of Owens Jr. High School, West Limestone High School and East Limestone High School. Mr. Johnson was a coach and teacher at Tanner High School and served in State Department of education for 22 years and retired in 1994.
Survived by his wife, Ruth Jane G. Johnson of Athens; son, Floyd Johnson and wife, Suzanne of Athens, one granddaughter, Callie Elizabeth Johnson; one grandson, James Caleb Johnson.
Pallbearers will be George Johnson, Winston Johnson, Pete Fiedel, Dickie Hobbs, Sammy Ransome, Randy Hall, Jackson Burns and Joe Hinkle. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Friends of Jesus Sunday School Class, Ken Rossman, Gene Strain, Wayne Henderson, Buddy Tillery, Ray Hill, Ralph Beasley, Danny Conerlen and Henry Schwan.
