Floyd Franklin Murphy – Obituary

Chief Petty Officer, Floyd Franklin Murphy, U.S. Navy retired, passed away August 4, 2015 at Keller Landing. He was a native of Lauderdale County. Being raised about 7 ½ miles North of Waterloo on County Road one (Second Creek). He retired from the U.S. Navy on 1 June 1977 after serving 30 years and 25 days on active duty in three wars, WWII, Korean War and served two tours in Vietnam. Chief Murphy married Mary Esther Rogers on 1 November 1947. They had two children, Larry J. Murphy of Muscle Shoals and wife Alice, and Brenda G. Murphy of Florence. Mary Esther passed away 20 September, 2008 at a nursing home in Lawrenceburg, TN after living there over 9 years.

Visitation will be Friday, August 7, 2015 from 6-8 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 8, 2015 at 10 a.m. in Greenview Memorial Park with military honors.

Chief Murphy was preceded in death by his parents, John and Sally Murphy; wife, Mary Murphy; sister, Mildred Perkins; sister-in-law, Toye Murphy; grandchild, Maria Berness; nephew, Darryl Murphy.

He is survived by his son, Larry Murphy and wife Alice of Muscle Shoals; daughter, Brenda Murphy of Florence; brothers, Earl Murphy of Brandenburg, KY, Raymond Murphy and wife Barbara of Florence, John Murphy and wife Sue of S.C.; brother-in-law, Jim Perkins of Florence; sisters, Louise Clemons and husband Jack, Mary Farley of Florence; grandchildren, Brooke Murphy McDaniel and husband Mark of California; great-grandchild, Gavin Murphy, son of Maria.

Pallbearers will be Phillip, Ronald, James, Chris and John Murphy, and Keith Locklear.
