Florene Cherry Massey
(January 8, 1920 – November 30, 2013)
Florene was a native of Jackson, Mississippi and had lived in Huntsville, Alabama since 1997. She was 93 and passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2013. She was born on January 8, 1920 and was married for 68 years to Henry Otto Massey, Jr. who died in 2009 She worked for the Deposit Guarantee Bank in Jackson, MS and for the Escambia County School Board in Pensacola, FL. She liked to write poems, read romance novels, sew and work jigsaw puzzles. She took great delight in her cooking, especially preparing a picnic basket for family outings at the beach when the family lived in Pensacola. Many times when Otto and her son Edward were playing golf she would ride along with them in the electric cart. Survivors include her younger sister, Evelyn Smith, in Houston TX, her son Ralph and his wife Ellen in Huntsville, Al and her son Edward in Barstow, CA. She has two Grandchildren: Rebecca Massey lives in Asheville, NC and Mark Massey and his wife Michelle live in Huntsville. She has one Great Grandchild, Alexander Douglas Massey, born to parents Mark and Michelle on October 14, 2013. Visitation will be Thursday, December 5, 2013 from 11:00 until noon at Hampton Cove Funeral Home. Burial will be next to Otto by a peaceful lake in Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson, Mississippi on December 10, 2013. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to one of the animal rescue organizations in the Huntsville area.
