FLORENCE-Jenise Spurgeon formerly of Florence was accused by authorities with numerous counts of child abuse, sexual abuse, rape, human trafficking, sexual torture and other crimes against children.
According to court documents the Spurgeon’s abuse of their adopted and fostered children stemmed over several years. During a virtual hearing on Wednesday, February 2 Jenise Spurgeon pleaded guilty to numerous counts of child abuse and neglect.
The husband of Jenise Spurgeon, Daniel Spurgeon pleaded guilty to two counts of child rape, one count of sexual torture and 11 counts of aggravated child abuse in August of 2019 . He was sentenced to 25 years in prison with no chance of parole.
Spurgeon’s plea deal calls for 15 years in prison on each court of abuse. Terms of the agreement will require only one year served. Lauderdale County district Attorney Chris Connolly acknowledged that the victims of Spurgeon’s abuse supported the plea bargain. Connolly stated the victims wanted her to admit her guilt under oath.
Spurgeon will receiver her sentence in May of this year. She will still face multiple counts of abuse in the pending cases in Florida.
